AGM Information

British Neuropsychiatry 26th Anniversary AGM,

7th and 8th February 2013

Institute of Child Health, London

The feedback from the 2012 AGM restructuring of the programme which included a neuropsychiatry research update and the prejudged members’ presentation slot was positive and it is hoped that members will continue to submit high quality projects for the 2013 AGM. The three prejudged presentations will each receive an Alwyn Lishman prize of £250. These projects and other abstract submissions will be, as usual, on display as posters throughout the meeting and the abstracts published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry in the late Summer 2013.

The ‘Neuropsychiatry Research Update’ session will include Deep Brain Stimulation for mental illness presented by our Chair Professor Eileen Joyce.

If any of our members have a ‘burning topic’ they would like to present in the research update, please contact  Hugh Rickards Hugh.Rickards@bsmhft.nhs.uk or Eileen Joyce e.joyce@ion.ucl.ac.uk.

The symposia on the first two mornings will continue as previous AGMs. On the first morning, we have an eminent group of speakers who will cover Stress and the Brain. With topics to include basic neuroscience of stress on brain function, stress and cognition and emotional processes, Stress and epilepsy, stress and memory and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. With a special Guest Speaker.

On the second morning the symposium will be devoted to epilepsy. John Jefferys will speak on the Neurophysiology of Epilepsy, Mark Richardson on Neural circuits, Christoph Helmstaedter on Progressive memory loss and epilepsy and our plenary speaker will be Andres Kanner on Depression anxiety and epilepsy.

Finally our Friday afternoon session will again address topics which are thought provoking and challenging.

The title of the 2013 session is ‘Consciousness’ with Geraint Rees presenting on the neuroscience of consciousness and Robin Carhart-Harris on Revelation and psychiatric drugs.
